Our Story

Joy Oi is founded in Wellingtons eastern suburbs by two long time friends with different cultural backgrounds who shared the same love for coffee. Chris who lived and worked in Vietnam for 7 years missed the taste of the country's home brew when coming back to his mother land of Aotearoa.

 

He found it impossible to find this style of coffee in his hometown Wellington. While meeting up with his old-time friend Allan over a pint and some banter both thought “Why don’t we bring Vietnamese coffee to New Zealand and the world” so Joy Oi was born.

Ways to Enjoy Joy Oi Coffee

The traditional Vietnamese method of brewing coffee consists of a special metal filter placed directly on top of the cup or glass. Coarsely ground beans go into a French drip filter (called a phin), which sits on top of the cup.
The beans are weighted down with a thin lid, hot water is added to the phin, the brewed coffee slowly trickles through into the cup. Today Vietnamese coffee is so versatile it can be used in anything from your home plunger to espresso machines and stove top percolators.
